Epoxy vs. Polyaspartic Floor Coatings: A Tale of Two Tough Guys
Round 1: The Basics
Epoxy is the classic. The OG of floor coatings. It’s been around forever and has a reputation for being durable, affordable, and strong—kind of like your grandpa who still chops wood for fun.
Polyaspartic, on the other hand, is the newer, cooler cousin. Fast-curing, UV-stable, and weather-resistant, it’s like epoxy drank an energy drink and went to grad school.
Round 2: Dry Time Drama
Epoxy likes to take its sweet time. It can take 1–2 days to cure (and longer in humid weather). You’ll get durability—but you’ll also need patience.
Polyaspartic? Blink and it’s cured. It can be ready for foot traffic in just a few hours, and back to full use within a day. Great for when you want your garage back yesterday.
Round 3: Sunlight Smackdown
Epoxy has a weakness: the sun. Leave it exposed, and it might yellow or chalk over time—like a vampire with a spray tan.
Polyaspartic laughs in the face of UV rays. It's UV-stable, meaning it keeps its color and shine, even in the sunniest of spaces.
Round 4: Goldilocks
So, which is best? The answer is actually both. Epoxy works great as a base coat, soaking deeper into the concrete and doing a better job at resisting the moisture in your slab. While the Polyaspartic being 4x harder than its counterpart will resist scratching, oil spills and UV better.
Moral of the story? Choose your installer carefully! Not everyone is offering the goldilocks service. With Revival Coatings you can can rest assured your concrete is being serviced JUST RIGHT.
